Chris Brown arrested for allegedly assaulting Rihanna

The big news of the day was not about the winners of last night's Grammy awards, but rather, about the reason why Chris Brown and Rihanna did not show up.

Brown, 19, was busy surrendering himself to police at 6:34 PST, and was charged with a felony in connection with a domestic violence incident involving 20-year-old Rihanna, the night before, police and sources say. He was officially booked at 7:41 p.m. for making criminal threats, and was released on $50, 000 bail.

Brown allegedly assaulted Rihanna after the Clive Davis pre-Grammys tribute event on Saturday night.

Sources say the alleged assault occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. Responding to a 911 call about a disturbance, the LAPD took statements from Robyn Fenty (Rihanna's real name) with visible injuries (some reports say contusions and bites), who named Brown as her attacker. Brown fled the scene before authorities arrived.

A few hours after the incident, witnesses spotted Brown and Rihanna leaving the London Hotel together at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, and bodyguards for the couple were seen moving their luggage out of the London during the Grammy telecast.

Brown is scheduled to appear in court on March 5th, and has hired attorney Mark Geragos, who is best knwon for defending Winona Ryder after her 2001 shoplifting arrest and Michael Jackson during his child molestation trial.

Insiders are supposedly shocked with this incident and said that"Chris is a good kid, well brought up."

But, Brown's family does have a history of domestic violence.

In 2007, he told Giant magazine that his mother had been physically abused by his stepfather.

"He used to hit my mom," Brown told the magazine. "He made me terrified all the time, terrified like I had to pee on myself. I remember one night he made her nose bleed. I was crying and thinking, 'I'm just gonna go crazy on him one day . . . ' I hate him to this day."

As a response to this incident, Wrigley's has dropped Brown as their spokesman for Doublemint gum (remember this commercial?), and has suspended all ad campagins featuring the singer until they see how things turn out in the case.

Their full statement reads:

"Wrigley is concerned by the serious allegations made against Chris Brown. We believe Mr. Brown should be afforded the same due process as any citizen. However, we have made the decision to suspend the current advertising featuring Brown and any related marketing communications until the matter is resolved."

Why Chris Brown, why?
I'm so disappointed in him.
